What the job is
This job is at the Hudson Valley VA Medical Center in Castle Point, New York. You will work in the Sterile Processing Service (SPS) department. Your job is to clean, sterilize, and store medical tools and equipment to keep them safe for patients and staff.

What you will do
You will follow instructions to clean and sterilize medical tools. This includes taking apart and checking tools for damage. You will load and unload sterilizers and test them to make sure they work correctly. You will also prepare and read tests to check if tools are properly sterilized.

You will handle and store sterilized tools using a first-in, first-out system. This means older tools are used first. You will scan and upload information about tools into a computer system. You will also clean and decontaminate reusable medical equipment, like endoscopes, following the manufacturer’s guidelines.

You may need to cover different shifts sometimes. You will also do other related tasks as needed.

What you need
You must be a U.S. citizen. You need to pass a drug test and a background check. You must be able to read, write, and speak English well. Men born after December 31, 1959, must be registered with the Selective Service. You will need to complete an online onboarding process and provide acceptable identification.

What you will get
You will work Monday to Friday from 10:00 AM to 6:30 PM, with flexible hours if needed. The pay is between $57,632 and $74,921 per year. You will get 37 to 50 days of paid time off each year, including vacation, sick leave, and holidays. You may also get extra leave based on your past work or military experience.

After 12 months, you can get up to 12 weeks of paid parental leave. If you have young children, you may get help paying for childcare. You will also get a federal pension and a 401K retirement plan with contributions from the VA. Health, vision, dental, life, and long-term care insurance are included. Some insurance benefits can continue after you retire.
